Descendants

After an EP and three singles, “Descendants” is Swedish outfit ERADIKATED’s debut album. The same line-up under another band name had released an album back in 2017. My best guess is that their music has not changed that much, despite the band name change. So, I am already searching for their previous album. ERADIKATED plays Thrash Metal with a lot of San Francisco Bay Area influences. It is heavy, it is fast and it is twisted. They never hit blast beat speeds, maintaining mostly a fast pace with seldom headbanging moments thrown in between. Guitarists Ragnar and Elvin spew a tasty bunch of palm muted, chunky riffs along keen leads that include nicely done double harmonies. Calle’s drum work is intense and violent without overwhelming the other instruments. His double bass and breaks reminded me of Bostaph’s on “Twisted Into Form”. Erland’s bass follows the guitars closely, providing a solid foundation along the drums. And his vocals do have the Baloff / Souza style imprinted in them. Overall, the production is sharp and crispy, with a focus on the mid to late ’80s style. The mix has the guitars and drums right up front. I think both the bass and vocals could be a little more present, but I doesn’t take away the fact that “Descendants” is a solid Thrash Metal record. I liked the fact that the guitars are not down tuned into oblivion, which has been a trend for so long now. And with an average of three minutes per song, the album begs for a repeat once it is done. I look forward to their second album, because ERADIKATED is building an identity for themselves already. Best of all, they don’t sound like every other retro Thrash Metal band out there.
