Winter takes us into darkness, winter is extreme cold weather, the last winter wasn’t that bad, at least not where I am sitting, it was mild and quite nice, though after such a winter, an EXTREME COLD WINTER follows. So this new entity from Holland might be a forewarning of what’s to come if the winter here gets as harsh as the music from Pim Blankenstein, Seth Van de Lo and A.J. van Drenth, three names you should have stumbled across, if you have been following the extreme Dutch Metal scene at some point. They have gathered to record some great old school Death / Doom Metal of yesteryears, and this five track album is the first sound from them. If you don’t already feel the cold, you will when the tones of ‘Warriors Of The Wasteland’ begins, a tour de force of darkness and despair, that paints these five tracks, from the start to the end. The band excels in writing quite catchy tunes, even though the guitars are tuned lower than hell, and that the bass is quite disturbing and the vocals always are invoking despair and suffering, I really like the riffing, and the effective and hard hitting rhythm patterns that back up the atmosphere and progression of the songs. This is quite a debut release, it has blown me away, and I can’t wait to indulge in this album during winter, it just keeps on getting deeper and deeper. Classic, atmospheric, dark, suffering, it takes my pain, multiplies it and rips it back into my head! More info at: www.facebook.com/extreme.cold.winter, www.vicrecords.com
