As I have stated before, I don’t like long intros. Usually, intros try to set the pace for what is coming up, but I don’t see why use more than 20 seconds for that. Anyway, right after my rant, here’s "Duality Of Things", the first release of Polish FANTHRASH. Kinda curious name for a band, I might add. Formed back in 1986 (!) and after 4 demo tapes and a 7", the band delivers one hell of a debut album. Production wise, it does sound post-2000. There is no way bands can escape that sound nowadays. Sound recording has evolved a lot since the early 80s, when Thrash Metal was born. But these guys have the right vibe from the good old days! This is a nice mix of mid-paced MOTÖRHEAD with a slower brutal attack of, say, an "Arise" era SEPULTURA and maybe some WICCA. First off, Less, the vocalist, delivers a raw, full force attack, yet melodic at times. He tends to get "stuck" in a certain tone here and there though. The guitar tone is great, with riffs a-plenty and flawless lead work. Also, the well balanced mix let the pounding bass lines come alive, adding a lot to the rhythm section, wrapped with detailed drumming courtesy of Radd. Let me say, I am really picky with all the "Retro-Thrash Metal" trend that has spawned in the last 5-6 years. Most bands play a bland, generic type of Thrash Metal, but FANTHRASH’s album is worth the 26 years it took to be released. Recommended!
