This one here is quite interesting. "Crypts Of Dissimulation" is the debut full length by FRAGARAK, an Indian outfit hailing from the capital New Delhi. Despite the huge population of the country India isn’t that well known for providing tons of Metal bands. Thus the scene there lies somehow still in obscurity. Basically the horde plays a kind of technical / progressive kind of Death Metal spiced with some elements from other genres within the realm of our beloved music. Especially there is a lethal dose of Thrash Metal when it comes to the riffing and rhythms while the extended killer melodic leads and harmonies refer to a more traditional Heavy Metal approach. The two axemen are extremely skilled on their equipment and are without any doubts blessed with talent. The comrads in crime, aka Ruben and Arpit, always come up with some subtle, sophisticated guitar work (classic accoustic guitars are also a part of their repertoire and sound) without neglecting the crushing, powerful aspect of the music. The riffs are memorable despite their complexity at times and have the potential to get stuck in your head for a longer period of time. The same goes for the melodic leads. They are arranged very carefully and fit perfectly into this beautiful but heavy and intense aural assault. The big difference to other bands is the fact that the bass guitar is very present on this six tracker as well. Kartikeya’s role is not just to complete the line-up by handling the four string department. He always provides great bass lines and licks which, thanks to the good sound quality and mix, can be heard quite clearly. The bass is a full-fledged instrument here and has also an important part in FRAGARAK’s sound. The drum work supports the other instruments in a perfect manner. It gives a solid foundation to the songs and pushes, when neccessary, the whole thing always forward. The vocal department is handled by Supratim and you can certify him to do a more than solid job. He offers a wide range of vocal styles like growls, infernal shrieks etc. – always depending on the mood or atmosphere of the music. If you have a soft spot for technical stuff then you should give this five piece a try and check out tracks like the epic opener ‘Savor The Defiance’, the brillant ‘Insurgence’ or ‘Cryptic Convulsion’. With the right support and a good label in the back this five piece could easily make an impact outside their country. The strongest Indian Metal release I have heard so far.
