Black Metallers GHÖRNT are back with their third album, “Bluetgraf”, an album that sounds dark, fast and nasty. These two maniacs, from Switzerland, throw you straight into a storm of Black Metal that is as raw, loud and full of energy as they could. It’s only about half an hour long, but that’s more than enough for them to do their thing. Here the songs are hard and fast. You barely have any time to breathe. But even with all the chaos, there are moments that really stick and give you a mix of melody and aggression, making GHÖRNT sound the way they do. From what I was able to see, they talk about vampires, old stories and myths from their home country. And it’s also cool to find that they don’t sing only in English, they use their own Swiss dialect, giving the album kind of a personal and local touch. Cool! What’s even more impressive is that one of the members, J, plays all the instruments. Thulus, the other half of GHÖRNT, handles the vocals, emerging directly from hell, which is exactly what you’d want to hear from a band like this. They bring the ferocity of the ’90s Black Metal movement and filter it through their own Swiss sorcery, giving “Bluetgraf” this identity that feels both reverent and fresh. This isn’t a reinvention of the wheel, it’s not, nor does it pretend to be, but this album might be a reminder that Black Metal, when done with intent and heart, can still feel genuinely dangerous. It’s just pure, angry Black Metal made by two people who clearly know what a band and album like this should sound like. They are “traditional”, but at the same time looking for something beyond. And I’ll finish saying that GHÖRNT might not be the biggest name out there, they remain underground, but with “Bluetgraf”, they’re saying that they’ve got something real going on and will come for you.
