What a fucking, killer surprise!!! VITAL-fucking-REMAINS worship all along!! Well, in the case of GODLESS RISING, this is – by all means – no seer coincidence since the band is consisted mostly of ex-VITAL REMAINS members. I admit that I have somehow lost interest in VITAL REMAINS after “Dawn Of The Apocalypse” and I guess GODLESS RISING will become the perfect VITAL REMAINS substitute not only for me, but all others missing the good-old early VITAL REMAINS days / releases and / or somehow don’t feel comfortable with the fact that Glen Benton has undertaken vocals duties for their past couple of albums. But let’s cut to the chase: GODLESS RISING are without any doubt a band that knows how to play blasphemous, crushing, yet solid Death Metal that captures the listener’s attention. It’s really hard to argue the band’s skills or their ability to deliver killer songs since these guys are not only technically skilled (delivering a couple of short solos and twisted riffs) but are also able to come up with some great tunes that grasp the listener’s attention. Their second album “Battle Lords” is nothing but a perfect example of how American Death Metal should sound: from the great production (guitars and rhythm section sound heavy as fuck), great performance of all members (typical for a well-rehearsed American band), shredding guitars and morbid / malicious vocals. I am incapable of locating one single negative point to this release, save only the intentional lack of originality. “Battle Lords” sounds devastating and will definitely impress all real fans of US Death Metal. And to top it all, the cover artwork is prepared by none other than grand master Chris Moyen. Along with IMMOLATION and DRAWN AND QUARTERED, GODLESS RISING have delivered one of the best and most solid US Death Metal albums of the past months. Don’t miss it!! www.godlessrising.com, www.moribundcult.com
