HEREZA
I Become Death
(Godz Ov War Productions)
29:14min

Strongly influenced in Stockholm’s 90s Death Metal scene, HEREZA offers here, their second full-length titled "I Become Death", a huge dose of old school sheer brutality distributed in almost 30 minutes. The first song here, the one that give title to this album, is like an unexpected punch directly in your face. Fast guitars, brutal vocals and good tempo changes in the drums department, moving from blast beat to slower patterns. The second track, as fast and brutal as the first one, continues the massacre. Another interesting thing here is that you can find some songs sung in Croatian, a language that I’m not familiar with, but it sounds fucking good to make this kind of brutal music. Check ‘Uništi, Pali, Ruši’, the fourth song here. ‘Pošast’, the ninth track, has a similar riffing in the beginning to one well known UNLEASHED song. Good guitar work here, especially on the solo. ‘Tombcrawler’ closes this really good album, one of the best I’ve listened to this year! Here is some DESULTORY, DISMEMBER, ENTOMBED or DISSECTION, UNANIMATED and DECAMERON influences, especially in some melodic passages (just check ‘Full Moon Slaughter’, the sixth track). Some contemporary references are Russia’s PYRE or Sweden’s MAIM. To be honest, I’m not into the Croatian current Metal scene (I just remember EVIL BLOOD from the past years) and HEREZA is a good approach to introduce myself into their extreme Metal scene. Short and effective good and heavy compositions, brutal vocals, solid and fast drumming and a good production makes this album a perfect addition to your Death Metal collection.
