Honestly spoken I was never too impressed by HEXX until they changed their style and released “Morbid Reality” in 1991. This was a skull crushing piece of Death / Thrash Metal and really kicked ass. Too bad HEXX disbanded after that release. Okay, normally I don’t like bands that drastically change their style, but in this case it had a very positive effect. The two first albums “No Escape” from 1984 and “Under The Spell” from 1986 were okay releases but definitely nothing too impressive. I know that there are many out there who might have an opposite opinion, but I see it that way. Anyway, as aforementioned my fave release was “Morbid Reality” and so I was hoping the band would still play Death / Thrash these days… But they don’t, “Wrath Of The Reaper” sounds like the early 90s never existed for HEXX. They again deliver very powerful and heavy US Metal like they did on their first two albums. And hey, surprisingly I’m really happy with that. “Wrath Of The Reaper” is a killer release with awesome and remarkable songs, especially the title track is a beast. The guitar work is killer, with great rhythms and tons of awesome leads. I also have to mention the brilliant new vocalist, this dude sounds really, really cool. This is not one of those trendy retro Metal releases and this is not a lame copy of the 80s… this is the real shit. HEXX’s new album is authentic to the bone. This is just timeless Heavy Metal the way it should be played. As much as I still love “Morbid Reality” I have to say that “Wrath Of The Reaper” now is my fave HEXX release.
