INSANE VESPER are hailing from Toulouse in the south of France. The horde is active in the underground since 2002 already and after a bunch of EPs they just released their second full-length entitled “LayiL”. The guys play a Scandinavian influenced version of Black Metal. The opener ‘Blood Of The Moon’ sounds like a mixture of DARK FUNERAL and MARDUK with the ugly vocals of old GORGOROTH and some tunes of newer SATYRICON releases. Surely nothing new what the band presents but very solid work with solid songwriting and proper and very skilled musicians. The drums are precise and technical with sharp guitar work and good freezing melodies combined with some really harsh vocals. The six presented long tracks are mostly based in the mid-tempo section and live from the freezing melodies and grim vocals. Each song is varying and technical but need to be considered as a whole picture as the songs fit together very well in a row and are all on a same high level. Instead of simply releasing new stuff the listener can hear, that these songs were growing over a longer period of time as with several spins the listener discovers some new fine facets in their sound. It might be difficult to mention the band’s name when listening to the material blind without knowing who the artist is but fans of melodic and freezing Black Metal can’t do anything wrong checking this good album out. Well-fitting for the end of this year’s summer season.
