“Cassini – Huygens” is the new EP released by the Italian old school Death Metal band INTO DARKNESS. If there was a prize for the worst cover artwork of the year, for sure INTO DARKNESS would be one of the most promising candidates for victory. The main concept of the EP is an ordinary mixture of astronomy, a bit of lovecraftian cosmicism, sci-fi, intergalactic stuff etc. Wow, something in the vein of mighty NOCTURNUS? Mmm not really, because INTO DARKNESS’ offer completely lacks in terms of musicianship and originality. Here we have five songs for almost 26 minutes of uninspired doomy Death Metal. This band is clearly inspired by bands like ASPHYX, DERKETA, INCANTATION, AUTOPSY, PENTACLE, NIHILIST, MYTHIC etc. If you’re into clone bands, INTO DARKNESS is a good answer for your desire of hackneyed old school Death Metal. The guitar sound is stolen from the Swedish school (early Sunlight Studios), the Doom parts are taken from the US underground (AUTOPSY and their sons), the headbanging ones are in the vein of BOLT THROWER and the concept is borrowed from NOCTURNUS. Even the production doesn’t help, because with this kind of song structures (galloping D-Beat accelerations alternated with doomy slowdowns and double bass interludes) I would have preferred a more obscure and cryptic sound. In conclusion, if you’re looking for sci-fi Death Metal, go with NOCTURNUS, but if you’re a die hard collector of any albums linked with the new wave of old school Death Metal, get it. www.facebook.com/intodarkness, https://unholydomainrecords.bandcamp.com
