LORD VIGO
Under Carpathian Sun
(self-financed)
30:18min

The band is named after Vigo Von Homburg Deutschendorf and initially I thought about a character like Götz von Berlichingen or Gilles Des Rais but in fact it is the paranormal villain from the movie Ghostbusters 2. To make things more strange the vocalist is wearing a spiked helmet with a dozen of spikes, the other musicians are posing with gadgetry like sledgehammer and chainsaw. The drummer in the video to the track ‘Vigo Von Homburg Deutschendorf’ reminds me of a Jawa ("Utini!") from the Star Wars saga. Accordingly the lyrics are a substrate of more than 30 years Heavy Metal poetry. But do not be fooled, the band is taking their mission absolutely sober. It just seems they are taking themselves and the whole Metal imagery not too serious. Using cliches is always walking a thin line between irony and ridiculousness. Many bands failed walking this line but not LORD VIGO with this Demo EP in cassette format. Musically the band is influenced by the early / mid 1980s Heavy Metal like MANOWAR (during their more epic "Into Glory Ride" and "Hail To England" period), BATHORY (again the more epic moments), NWOBHM and eighties Doom Metal. The trio from Kaiserlauten, Germany, is listing bands like CANDLEMASS, SOLITUDE AETURNUS, SAVATGE, KING DIAMOND and MANILLA ROAD to their influences and labels their style as Epic Doom Metal. Hymnic, gloomy, rough, dramatic Metal with an organic sound… if the band keeps the level of the five songs the full-length is going to be killer! www.facebook.com/lordvigo666, https://lordvigo.bandcamp.com
