LORD VIGO
We Shall Overcome

On their fifth full-length LORD VIGO are doing exactly what they do best. Namely playing a very unique style of Heavy Metal, which eludes any generic definition. A weird mixture of Doom Metal, obscure and cranky Metal from the ’80s, a huge amount of Epic Metal and slices of classic, some even say Progressive Rock. To me LORD VIGO were always great because they managed to create a convincing atmosphere which perfectly suits to the concept of the albums. Concept albums have a long tradition in Heavy Metal and LORD VIGO are among the bands that have rediscovered this practice. Even across albums, because “We Shall Overcome” is the prequel to the previous album “Danse De Noir”. That may sound a little off the mark, but the trio from Germany (supported by three live musicians) actually manages the not-so-easy split between demanding art and music that you can just listen to. LORD VIGO are also with this album definitely compatible in all directions of sub-genres within the realm of Metal. Personally I miss the rough and unpolished power of the first demo EP “Under Carpathian Sun” a little bit and the atmosphere is not so coherent like on my favorite LORD VIGO album “Six Must Die”. But this personal sentiment should not keep anyone away from making up your own mind.
