Okay, my loyal readers, it’s time to get philosophical. As an older Metalhead like me, where do you draw the line between sticking to the old stuff and disregarding the new? It’s always a bit rough to find something that can make you stand up and listen at times. MALPHAS can be that band that straddles that line. Some may find this repetitive, been there done that, but where do you draw a distinction? What would you call this fourth wave, fifth wave? As mentioned in my previous review, the younger generation may love this. Primary sound is WATAIN, maybe a bit of later-day NECROPHOBIC. I’m not putting the band and its music down at all, because it’s not bad, plenty of energy and dynamics. Track 4, ‘Majestic Moon’, has a very epic feel to it and encompasses many moods within the song. Probably the best in the bunch. When I saw the band’s imagery, I was thinking the album as a whole was going to be a satanic, chaotic rager, so that song took me by surprise. The band has its start in 2014, and you can readily see/hear their influences, and I do feel they keep the spirit alive. So I guess what I’m trying to say is take a step back and see what was then, how it made you feel, open your mind to what is now and maybe, just maybe, it can bring that same spark. www.facebook.com/malphasoccult, www.facebook.com/soulsellerrecords
