Ex-MORPHEUS DESCENDS / ex-INCANTATION bassist Rob Yench and former members of Pennsylvanian band NECROTOMIE teamed up to unleash a morbid old school assault in the vein of early DEATH, DR SHRINKER, MASSACRE and most important AUTOPSY. The four guys do a great job, but unfortunately the production disappoints. Since the songwriting is excellent, the musical performance gives no reason for complaints and especially vocalist Rick – like Chris Reifert he even plays the drums beside screaming and growling like a possessed Zombie – is extraordinary good. MAUSOLEUM ressurect the spirit of the days of ancient Death Metal perfectedly! Song titles like ‘Flesh Fiends’, ‘Entombed In The Womb’ or ‘Horrifying World Of Disembodied Souls’ speak for themselves and MAUSOLEUM’s debut offers a gory worshipping of old Death Metal with the unforgettable charme the ancestors of this genre had. It is really sad that the production sounds like a demo, but I like the album nonetheless and people enjoying the bands I mentioned above should not have a problem with this single white spot left on MAUSOLEUM’s bloodsoaked vest.
