MISANTHROPY APOTHEOSIS
Crush The Mask Of Virtue

The Greek duo of death and mayhem, MISANTHROPY APOTHEOSIS, is back on the warpath, with the second full length album “Crush The Mask Of Virtue”. They released the first album “Black Death Euphoria” back in 2018 themselves and then the mini album “Against Your Filthy Kind” in 2020 on Repulsive Echo Records. We are now writing March 2024 and this album, which was released on CD Christmas Eve, has found its way to my ears. Now bleeding ears after a senseless beating of brutal Death Metal with a healthy touch of the old Greek dark and mysterious thrashy feel to it. “Crush The Mask Of Virtue” is not as aggressive and straight on as “Against Your Filthy” kind. It is darker and more eerie, there’s still a good base-feel of the heavy and crunchy Swedish Death Metal from the early nineties to it, some South American madness and darkness and a fling of the ‘Greek Sound’. The atmosphere in the title track with chanting choirs and chiming church bells creates a superb atmosphere, together with the great guitar lead and crushing rhythm patterns, together with great pace changes from mid-tempo to fast. Dimon’s Night has always been keen on showing his skills on guitar – an instrument he masters quite well. Though at times it can become a tad too much. On the EP the great lead and solo work was underlined by crushing brutality, though here on the new album, which is a tad more mellow and varied in brutality and atmospheric parts, it can tip a song in the ‘a tad too mellow’ direction. There are some examples which I at certain times adore and a others find too slow and dragging, though overall the guitar work is stellar and adds to the songs and atmospheres. Though it can be a tad over the top, as the beginning of ‘Κῆρες θανάτοιο’ which ends out quite well. Quite a varied album shifting from all out brutal to more groovy and melodic Death Metal, great rhythm patterns, some quite catchy parts and Kydoimos’ brutal and sick growl all over the place, as it should be. A solid and enjoyable offering! Enter blasphemies of the flesh: https://against-your-filthy-kind.bandcamp.com, www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063268087482, www.repulsiveecho.com
