MISOTHEIST
For The Glory Of Your Redeemer
(Terratur Possessions)
30:29min

A little more than two years ago, the Norwegian MISOTHEIST released their astonishing self-titled first full length. This album was like a bolt of blackness on a clear blue sky and really hit my nerve. Now the nameless three-piece is back with a new album, once more on Terratur Possessions. “For The Glory Of Your Redeemer” follows the dark path of the debut album and presents the same immense quality, again spread over three long (to very long) songs. The peaceful, yet dazing intro piece of ‘Rope And Hammer’ lasts for only 40 seconds until the storm breaks loose. Yet this one takes a very changing path, as it is interspersed by mid tempo parts and even a slight return of the intro theme and mood, that slowly escalates into the fury. The following ‘Benefactor Of Wounds’ lives from its twisted guitars and furious breaks that change the atmosphere in the blink of an eye. Yet the real challenge of “For The Glory Of Your Redeemer” is the final epic ‘Acts Of Flesh’, a 16-minute trip through the chasms of gloom. Despite its opulent length, this monolith knows to capture the listener with breaks and changing moods. MISOTHEIST even dare some new and particular ideas, like tribal sounding drum effects and dissonant breaks, to create oppressive, even haunting atmospheres. And some of the guitar flows are quite obsessed, creating moods that fit a Lovecraftian story. This song sets a high standard not only for the next works from MISOTHEIST, but also for Black Metal in 2021.
