By all means, it’s always nice with bands that pay tribute to their heroes, or to bands that have meant something to their own development. But hey, 19 tracks? Personally I don’t see the point with such a release. I don’t see why such an otherwise great band such as Napalm Death chooses to play 19 covers of different bands, ranging from Thrash Metal such as early Sepultura to even earlier Doom with Hellhammer’s ‘Messiah’. That they’ve chosen to include several Punk-bands is not something I can relate to, since I’ve never understood such music. However, thinking of Napalm Death’s first two albums, it’s obvious that this band does not origin from the traditional Death Metal scene. OK, 19 different tracks wrapped in a Napalm Death sound is not my cup of tea. It could be cool to listen to these tracks in their original form, but when they all sound more or less the same I’m easily bored. There’s no identity to them, besides the Napalm Death sound. So, if you think good of bands such as Cryptic Slaughter, Anti-Cimex, Massacre, Hirax and more, you could always check this out just for fun. To me it would be funnier if Napalm Death did a new album now.
