Jonny Pettersson (instruments) and Kam Lee (vocals) have put together a little album called “Kult Of The Raven” under the name NATTRAVNEN. You may have heard of both members. They’ve been in more bands than God. And therefore, both members are skilled artisans of their trade, creating filthy, crushing Metal for decades now. With no prior demos or EPs, NATTRAVNEN are just jumping right in, delivering a slightly different style of Metal than we may be used to from these guys. The first track ‘The Night Of The Raven’ fades in with a furious blast of Death Metal with a touch of symphonic elements lurking in the background. The guitars crunch, the drums pound and the vocals regurgitate. The boys waste no time in planting their seed in the virginal abomination laying before them. ‘Suicidium, The Seductress Of Death’ is another heavy mass of sound, layering tumultuous amounts of guitar-slaying madness with more faint keyboards and growls that come from the bowels of hell itself. ‘Corvus Corax Crown’ slows things down a bit at first until taking off at missile-like speeds. ‘Upon The Sound Of Her Wings’, after about 45 seconds, creates music for moshing without looking back. Kam’s vocals sound like a muppet being strangled by a bloodthirsty werebeast. A more straightforward track, ‘Return To Nevermore’ is a violent, intimidating track with chugging guitars and monstrous drums. The confidence of NATTRAVNEN shines through on ‘From The Haunted Sea’, segueing into the rising and falling tides of ‘The Anger Of Despair When Coping With Your Death’. What a great fucking song title! ‘Kingdom Of The Nattravnen’ and ‘Kult Av Ravnen’ close out the debut album with a satisfying ending without fucking anything up along the way. NATTRAVNEN are simply good at what they do. With decades of experience, the duo continue to set the Metal world on fire without losing any of their passion for what they do.
