Swedish horde NECROPHOR are not totally unknown in the underground, as they just unleashed their demo number three within only three years of band history. This time, they were not able to record in Studio Sunlight, so they decided to record and mix the demo themselves and "Exterminatus" turned out great and comes up with a good sound and proper production for a demo release. Their mission still is to spread the word and so the music is without surprise a mixture of Death and Black Metal, a style which has its roots in Scandinavia but was perfected by some well-known Swedish hordes two decades ago. So what can we expect nowadays from a band playing this style? The answer is easy. Hellish and dark symphonies and constantly growing songwriting abilities. The opening track ‘Gods Of War’ starts very melodic and quickly recalls the time when lables like No Fashion and Wrong Again brought us some real dark treasures. Only the vocals are far more aggressive than known from the classic melodic Swedish bands. The vocals are very menacing and influenced by the classic Norwegian Black Metal bands of the 90s, before they reduce the Swedish influences in the middle part and bring in some blistering and disturbing melodies, which radiates pure coldness, known from bands like IMMORTAL. The second track ‘Chaos Undivided’ starts very quick and again very melodic with very aggressive vocals, that remind me of their landmates from NAZGHOR. A very dark but still melodic song, which makes your blood freeze again. The last track ‘Suicide Solution’ is a slow, old school Black Metal influenced hymn, very dark and menacing and the music fits perfect to the title. In the middle, the track gets more melodic, with a fine lead melody, before it leads into the bitter and terrifying end, with a sad keyboard outro. Their songwriting is very fine and fans of bands like NECROPHOBIC or even NAGLFAR should check this band out.
