Buried In The Woods

It’s been six years now since the Finnish Death Metal old hands NECROPSY raised their ugly head again in 2009. The resurrection was followed by the band’s first full length “Bloodwork” in 2011 and the EP “Psychpoath Next Door” two years later as the debut for their new label Xtreem Music. The same year saw the release of “Tomb Of The Forgotten”, an anthology of all the stuff NECROPSY recorded during their first incarnation from 1989 to 1994 on 3 CDs and 4 LPs. But now it’s 2015 and due time for a new album, the second only in the long interrupted history of the band. And “Buried In The Woods” is the best NECROPSY recorded in the last years. I always loved their brutal and rather un-Scandinavian approach to brutality, but with this album, everything is in a nearly perfect shape now. Catchy songs with barbed hooks always were a virtue of NECROPSY, but they never showed this ability in a better way than here. The opening title track already breaks necks, ‘Cold Fart Morbidity’ and ‘Just Sharpen My Knife’ do so as well, especially the latter with the ultra-fast pounding drums embedded in the groove. But these songs are only paving the way for two real highlights. ‘Dead Inherit The Land’ is one of those I want to hear over and over again, with some deadly leads and an irresistible force to bang my head. And ‘Full Moon Catlin’ is of the same quality, a musical rollercoaster ride where SLAYER meets the old school of Death Metal in Sweden. Huge! And don’t think ‘Pages Of Flesh’ is a flaw against those two breaker songs – those doom grooves are just killer! With ‘Best Day Ever’ we may not have the best song ever, but still another good and variable Death Metal song that leaves you time to catch some breath again before the end. And this end packs a punch! Bang your heads to ‘Father Heresy’, for the main groove of this song is perfectly fit for that, before the end of the song even gets a little spooky. Yes, with this album, NECROPSY really kick serious asses, so it might be a mistake not to check out www.necropsy.fi or www.facebook.com/pages/necropsy/204404386244264.
