How much manic grin can you get? That is most likely what one would anticipate when listening to OBNOXIOUS YOUTH’s most recent assault, “Burning Savage.” You can’t really point a finger to define proper terminology for this Swedish-Finnish powerhouse, as they were here to redefine the perfect fusion of Heavy, Speed, Punk, Thrash and Black Metal at the loudest and fastest possible. On the more positive side, it could be a good omen when a group of inspiring people plays the true spirit of Rock’n’Roll to burn the barriers – not to entertain the masses, but to break the boundaries of the underground music showbiz in today’s modern society. These youths are not the kind of friendly neighborhood you’re looking for. Chaos is engraved in their leather jackets, and wild is shine upon their gruff appearance. Having been ripping madness for 19 years, the band has released “The Eternal Void”, “Disturbing The Graves” and “Burning Savage” with the intention that is clear: banging the skulls that don’t bang. Take the first four tracks of their third album, for instance. ‘Alpha Diabolos’, ‘Imminent Evil’, ‘Burning Savage’ and ‘Lethal Revenge’. These songs truly live up to their name. It is clear that the listeners cannot predict what will happen next. Their riffs are obviously explosive at every turn. They are brief yet powerful. The utmost destruction of these four assaults is probably achieved by the guitar works that are effortlessly swarming on every bar. Additionally, the drum beats and bass attacks are so well-combined in order to give no space for regular maniacs breathing. In order to adjust the tension at the level of frenzied claustrophobia, the caustic vocal character really creates the rabid nature of this group, which is none other than violence or nothing at all. However, there is a distinct formula that they follow to deliver a pleasant surprise. A strange VOIVODian approach to calm their twisting riffs before the hysteria continues. Their uncontainable energy carries on through the upcoming songs ‘Black Magic Whore’, ‘Torrents Of Black Blood’, ‘Ultra Death’ and ‘Bitchkrieg’. But apart from the aggression that OBNOXIOUS YOUTH highlights in every spin, their sixth track is unebelievably amazing. Some mind-bending guitar fills capture a seamless transition between “the hand of doom and show no mercy kind of attitude”. For some reasons, that could be a great way to maintain their strength to avoid falling into the abyss: burn out through repetition. Something that will be revealed if certain bands are able to concentrate on the spirit of extremity and the soul of the barbarity. Their last four savageries through ‘Ethereal Termination’, ‘Phantasma’, ‘Tornado Of Blades’ and ‘Omega Therion’ are inescapable. There are tons of tasteful and dynamic Thrash Metal influences raging through these last offerings. The razor-sharp guitar works, especially in the ninth and tenth tracks; despite their simplicity, they unfold the rhythmic experimentation graciously at a frantic pace. The riffs and vicious vocals are memorable. Their song structure in the final two tracks ensures that each moment remains wholly apparent. Furthermore, every progression has its own identity. Some melodies would increase your enjoyment of their force of mental and dark power. This horror of October is definitely getting real with the presence of “Burning Savage” by OBNOXIOUS YOUTH. Their feral power on this record is addictive. There is an abundance of riffs to keep more people impressed. The sound design is organic and benefits the expanding genre through the depths of loud and fast music. Every instrument sounds magnificent in delivering their savagery music vision. This production makes much of their ferocious aggression an easily digestible force. And the profound cover art truly heightens the texture and mood of this record. It is not only a visual wonder but an essential element that conjures a significant identity or constant presence of the record. A portal that would provide an immense dimension for the album to expand. If you fancy a fast and loud record with boundless heavies of musical forms to absorb, you should get along with these OBNOXIOUS YOUTH.
