Yeah, this is exactly the type of jump-around, corelike mixture that turns worshippers of the traditional and old schoolish Death Metal rules into bulletbelt wearing ignorant monsters, ha! Shortly said all INCANTATION or AUTOPSY heads should better click exit instead of reading further, cause this Belgian double Deathcore package will be your pain in the ass. Starting with the better sounding 3 tunes of OUTCAST, a quartet that has already been around since 1997. They manage to have a really brutal guitarsound, really harsh, but the drums, especially the hightuned snare sound is awful, like beating on your mother’s soucepan. Defintely one of those production elements I hate most about this recent wave of US-styled brutal Death / Grind; but without loosing too much in details OUTCAST stylewise find a balance between core and mosh acts like ALL SHALL PERISH, CATARACT and the US school of MISERY INDEX or SKINLESS. It’s surely a brutal and deadly dose, that could work really good in a live situation. Unfortunately it lacks in a sort of deeper inspiration and personal way of impression to me. OUTCAST are not bad at all, but I think that this scene currently spits out hundreds of bands with a similar touch, so that OUTCAST should work on a more oustanding vision. Landmates MOKER actually have grown as a sort of Death Metal project of the Metalcore act LINCHPIN. You’ll hear the corish approach in the parts of their 3 tracks too. Mainly the typical jump around style of beats and riffs that we’ve already heard too often in the last couple of months already. MOKER have their best moments when they play brutal into your face with nearly bone sawing guitars, which in some moments reminds me a bit of old ABORTED and some brutal Dutch bands. In terms of the songwriting professionality and sound OUTCAST defintely steals MOKER the show, while on critical ways both Belgian Deathcore brotherbands have one massive problem, which is a faceless character in an overloaded genre that simply gives both bands a middle class position. www.shiver-records.com
