Spiritual Negation

“Spiritual Negation” is PERVERSITY’s sixth full length album and it keeps up with the quality material that this Slovakian outfit has been releasing since its inception back in 1995. Frantic drum work, memorable riffing and deep growls define what this album is all about. This falls on the brutal side of Death Metal, so the usual influences are present. Luckily, PERVERSITY has had their time to inject their music with their own twist. Guitarists JK and MC provide the constant tremolo riffing, mixed with palm muted parts and sharp leads, while RS binds the guitar work with the savage output of drummer MB. And JH tops it off with his unceasingly brutal growling. All performances are as elaborate and vicious, as they are supposed to be. The high speed factor is seldomly broken with some heavy as hell pounding segments, which gives the listener some time to breathe before entering the whirlwind of “Spiritual Negation” again. The production is thick and dense and it works perfectly for their music. And although the mix is clear and balanced, it is a little dry. A tad of headroom would’ve been an improvement in my humble opinion. But the overall atmosphere is oppressing and strangling, with a lot of that early ’90s vibe. I really liked the bass tone, which adds a lot of bottom end without being muddy, especially since the guitar tone is amazingly bass heavy. Add the huge drum sound and the colossal growling and you’ve got yourself an album that checks (and surpasses) every aspect in this style of music. I could go on describing how good “Spiritual Negation” is, but you better listen for yourself. A convincing and solid effort from a band that has worked hard to build their identity and keeps delivering the goods.
