It is undeniable that bands like ROTTING CHRIST, NECROMANTIA and VARATHRON (just to name a few) once took the scene by storm with their own brand of extreme music. Some of them have wandered away from their original style. So, a bunch of up and coming bands are continuing the tradition of evilness. And, in my humble opinion, the new torchbearer of Greek Black Metal is RAVENCULT. After 2 demos, an EP and their debut album, their sophomore effort, “Morbid Blood” comes and goes too damn fast and it leaves you wanting more, a lot more. Right from the start, the atmosphere is set for one of the best Black Metal albums I have heard in the last 5-6 years. The band combines the best parts from the aforementioned bands, plus the style from the old works by IMMORTAL, MAYHEM and even POSSESSED, into an extreme opus of eerie / melodic tremolo riffing, high speed to mid-paced drumming and raspy vocals. The production is raw and organic with a clean mix and an early 90s overall feel. I am still wondering how 3 guys can come up with such an amazing piece of music. They lack a little variation, but I really doesn’t care. This is just too good to be true! So basically, you NEED to get this one as fast as you can!
