RECKLESS MANSLAUGHTER, from Germany, return with their fourth full-length album, “Sinking Into Filth”, released via Memento Mori on CD. This album features eight tracks that dive deep into the band’s signature blend of Death Metal. Known for their relentless, crushing sound, RECKLESS MANSLAUGHTER’s latest offering does not disappoint. From the very first moment, it’s clear that this is a band deeply entrenched in the darker, guttural side of Death Metal. “Sinking Into Filth” reflects the band’s journey towards a sonic obliteration. The album opener, ‘Caverns Of Perdition’, sets the tone with its slow beginning that gradually moves into the definition of what RECKLESS MANSLAUGHTER is here for. They blend straightforward Death Metal with more complex, dissonant structures that reward careful listening, while still delivering the visceral intensity fans of the band would expect. I really loved the intro of ‘Awaiting My Demise’, a track where the band stretches the limits of their sound, incorporating more atmospheric, doom-laden elements that add a sense of creeping dread to their otherwise relentless assault combining ferocity and enough technicality. The mood darkens even further as the record approaches its climax, especially with ‘Retreat Into Nothingness’, a track that channels more suffocating parts aligned with some Doom elements. I also enjoyed ‘The Sacred Lie’, a DIABOLICAL IMPERIUM cover, that matches with the energy and the personality of the album fitting it perfectly with the band’s style, sound and philosophy. The album closes with ‘Risen From The Mass Grave’, which is arguably the most complex track on the album, offering a sinister outro to the madness that has been building for the last 37 minutes. The band leaves the listener submerged in filth, lost in a maze of sound and meaning. Overall, “Sinking Into Filth” is a piece that should be part of any Death Metal collection this year. RECKLESS MANSLAUGHTER has once again proven that they are a very solid Death Metal act, offering a record that is as brutal as it is intelligent. If you’re looking for an album that drags you into the depths of human suffering and despair, “Sinking Into Filth” is exactly what you need. Highly recommended for fans of relentless, high-quality Death Metal like BRUTALITY, GOREFEST or AVULSED (among others).
