REPENT
Disciple Of Decline

You used to worship pure fuckin’ Thrash Metal back in the 80s, but got fed up with this genre when PANTERA, MACHINE HEAD and the likes changed the whole scene around and the term Nu Metal got created? Well, in this case you should really check out Germany’s REPENT, cause these guys deliver an incredibly fresh, yet completely old schoolish sounding version of pure Thrash Metal! It’s really a miracle to me how they managed to remain unnoticed by the bigger media for so long (their origin already dates back to 1992!), but actually another sad proof of how trendy the Metal business machinery keeps on working these days… "Disciple Of Decline" is already the band’s second full length (following 2000’s "Escape From Reality" album on the small Scarecrow label and three demo tapes) and as far as I know they still haven’t found a proper label for the release of it yet, which is unbelivable!!! On their website they name Exodus, Slayer, Forbidden and Death as their main sources of inspiration and I bet that at least lovers of the first three mentioned would really get a kick out of the eleven tracks on offer here! The extremely powerfully produced and skillfully performed material personally reminds me of a solid mixture of DARK ANGEL (especially due to singer Serkan Sanli’s vocal delivery), but with a more Bay Area type musical background. Kinda like the guitar dominated songwriting of EXODUS / FORBIDDEN, performed with the intensity of early SLAYER. Here and there I could also name older INVOCATOR as a reference as they seemed to have a similar rooted background years ago. Very crushing, very impressing and because of the fact that there’s hardly any bands left dedicated to this type of music these days – also very refereshing! They even incorporated a rather Punk / old HC influenced track (‘Anarchy’) on this new album, which is another similarity to the bands of the 80s, who used to mix up the traditional NWOBHM sound with the energy and aggression of Punk / HC. So, to sum it up plain and simple: all killers and no fillers here! The band should just reconsider their logo art for it doesn’t really live up to their musical qualities. It looks rather dull and might turn even more people off rather then catch their interest. For all further info go to: www.repent.de
