Sometimes bands are around for ages and completely pass me by. REPENT from Bavaria released their first demo in 1997, and their first two albums in 2000 and 2004. But they never happened to me until I heard their current (and third) album "Vortex Of Violence" these days. I don’t know if it’s a shame, but REPENT thrash really hard on this new album… "Vortex Of Violence" features twelve tracks of solid Thrash Metal, meeting international standards without any doubt. And they can hardly be put into a stereotype, since they play neither Bay Area style, nor typical German Thrash. They take the best of all kinds, mixing their own blend. A respectable blend, which doesn’t lack of anything. The sound is unpolished, but not too raw, the riffing is aggressive and some melodic moments can be found as well. REPENT also know that good Thrash needs a break every then and now and a few slower parts as the extra something. This doesn’t sound spectacular, but it isn’t meant to be spectacular as well. But any Thrasher should have an eye on "Vortex Of Violence", for there is satisfaction guaranteed. Songs like ‘The System Has Failed’, ‘Howl’ or the opening title track are too furious to be overheard, not to forget the final track, ‘Puppets Of Corruption’, which turns out to be the highlight of the album. Everyone into good old vinyl can be sure to get a well packaged and worthy record, since High Roller is known for their love of vinyl. This album will be limited to 500 copies in a gatefold sleeve with insert and two extra live-tracks. But "Vortex Of Violence" is available on CD as well.
