RIGOR SARDONICOUS
Praeparet Bellum

“Preparet Bellum” is the seventh full length album by the obscure Funeral Doom / Death Metal band RIGOR SARDONICOUS. This is a pretty well known project in the underground, especially if you’re into extremely slow tempos, monotonous riffs and a claustrophobic atmosphere. This duo offers tons of basic and monolithic riffs, a very simple form of Funeral Doom with some Death Metal influences here and there. Forget intricated arpeggios and melodic parts, this is a non-stop flow of solid and heavy chords with a very distorted guitar sound. Imagine a raw and minimalist version of “In The Depths Of R’lyeh” by the mighty CATACOMBS, slow and agonizing darkness with few melody. The sense of emptiness, despair and anxiety is the leitmotiv of the entire album. “Praeparet Bellum” contains eight songs for almost 48 minutes of the sick stuff. I’m a fan of Funeral Doom and its pioneers, bands like THERGOTHON, MOURNFUL CONGREGATION, ESOTERIC, EVOKEN, SKEPTICISM etc. I’m also into bands that mix Funeral Doom and other genres, for example NORTT (Black / Funeral) or DISEMBOWELMENT and ANATOMIA (Death / Funeral). Ok, RIGOR SARDONICOUS is the rawest and more simplistic answer to the demand of disturbed aural lamentations. The beats are provided by a drum machine and that’s not a good thing because it gives a sense of aseptic to the whole atmosphere, but since the tempos are extremely slow the result is not annoying. The vocals are ultra low and guttural, a rotten and morbid hymn to sickness. In conclusion, this is a honest album, a hammer bow that is not easy to digest if you’re not familiar to this kind of sonority. www.facebook.com/rigorsardonicous.official, www.facebook.com/memento.mori.label
