ROGASH
Malevolence
(War Anthem Records)
39:03min

Second full length album of this German Death Metal band. To be honest in nowadays endless sea of releases and specially in the Death Metal realm, it is hard to come up with something above average. Yet, it is possible. But I am afraid that ROGASH is still not up in that spot. The band knows how to play, and the recording is of the best quality you can get. There are some really good riffs here and there, and the band is actually quite good at doing some extreme Thrash at times rather than just pure Death Metal. They sounded to me like the Death Metal of BEHEMOTH with some other parts reminiscent of bands like SEPULTURA and MALEVOLENT CREATION. It in facts sounds like an European band trying to do American Death Metal, and usually doing it quite very good. The style seems like if it is going to be more brutal but they keep it controlled. Still, even if the songs flow quite good, there were nothing what I would call memorable or groundbreaking. Maybe it’s the low growling vocals that are quite one dimensional, or just maybe the fast parts are sounding quite alike. Although I am one of those who does not care for originality, the band sounds too much like their influences and even if they take the good things here and there, I am sure they can push it further, gaining not only a sound of their own, but also making things more interesting. As it is, it’s just ok. Oh, and in their favour, they do a SEPULTURA cover which might be even better than the original. www.facebook.com/rogashmetal, www.war-anthem.de
