This is the debut issue of a new zine from Portugal, which is limited to 500 handnumbered copies. The musical taste of editor António Lúcio comes pretty close to ours, so old school Death and Thrash Metal fans will be pleased to hear that this issue features interviews with ASPHYX, UNLEASHED, DEVASTATION (TEX), DANIEL EKEROTH, SULPHUR FEAST and BODYSNATCH plus 15 reviews. As you’ll already have noticed by that, there’s not too much content on the 52 A5-sized pages, which is in fact one of the biggest problems of this zine. Too much space was literally wasted for superfluous discographies of wellknown bands and / or way too big pics, logos or covers (of which the xerox quality furthermore turned out pretty poor and rather dark)… And in times when most underground information can easily be found on the internet, I don’t really see the need for a "news" section in a small underground zine, which in this case consists of two entries only, anyway. When it comes to the layout, there’s also a lot to be improved as you’ll find the coverart of the book "Swedish Death Metal" almost everywhere (it got used as the zine’s front- and backcover, for backgrounds of each interview, the reviews etc.), so that is another point of criticism here for sure. So, let’s simply blame it on the fact that this was António’s first attempt to create a zine (to me VOICES # 1 was also embarrassing as hell, folks…) and give him a bit of time for improvements with his follow-up issues.
