“File under: Black Metal” sez the record company’s info sheet. Well, Black Metal fundamentalists will probably run amok. Yes, SCREAMIN’ DAEMON sound pretty high pitched. This counts for the guitars as well as for the vocals but does that make a band Black Metal? A concept album about your national serial killers? If that’s Black Metal, I’d call it rather progressive. In terms of Death Metal it’s definitely not. To hell with all drawers anyway. Okay, in a way there are Black Metal elements on here indeed, especially concerning some of the blasts. Furthermore, the flow of the vocals reminds me a little of Dani Filth. But that’s pretty much it. Apart from that, the songs also have Scandinavian Death Metal influences of the more brutal kind, I spotted some harmonies I’d expect from a band like IMMOLATION and last but not least there are some Rock’n’Roll elements. I’m not talking about Death’n’Roll here but about the Rock’n’Roll melodies that used to be fashionable decades ago! Most obviously in the last song ‘The Big Ripper Sings Sadistic Rape At Bingley Working Men’s Social Club’ where SCREAMIN’ DAEMON just add some blasts for the chorus. Secondly, the band furiously covers the old Shanty song ‘What Shall We Do With the Drunken Sailor’ and replaces ‘the Drunken Sailor’ with ‘the Evil Doctor’. Apart from that, the music sounds rather serious, so SCREAMIN’ DAEMON doesn’t appear to be a fun project exclusively. Concerning the young age of these guys, these 13 songs are more than just solid and I’m pretty sure we’ll hear more of SCREAMIN’ DAEMON in the future. www.screamindaemon.com
