SPECTRAL VOICE is, by far, one of my favorite Metal bands of all time. The first time I got in touch with their music I was hooked. I was under the impression that they arrived to this planet called Death / Doom Metal to prevail. And I lived years and years convinced that after the pioneers WINTER, DISEMBOWELMENT, UNHOLY, SYMPHONY OF GRIEF (with that song ‘Spectral Voice’ as a reference) and perhaps some other bands, the Death / Doom realm was pretty well established. Luckily, I was completely wrong! With a previous band called ABYSMAL DIMENSIONS, that was kind of (but not exactly) a pre – SPECTRAL VOICE, the bands members begun to write their story back in 2011. Unfortunately ABYSMAL DIMENSIONS ceased to exist, but gave place to the rise of a band called SPECTRAL VOICE. Needless to say that the style of the band is maybe acquired from bands like the ones mentioned above (maybe, yes) but that doesn’t mean that their pretty evil, obscure, hypnotic and sometimes chaotic sound has not been a top notch deliver for an entire decade now. No other band in the world sounds like SPECTRAL VOICE today. They are paying homage to their influences for sure, but (at some points) going the extra mile. Seven years were needed to put out a new album since their previous one (they only have two full-lenghts to date) “Eroded Corridors Of Unbeing” was placed on the line through Dark Descent Records in 2017. Despite the seven years gap, it was worth! And I’m focusing just on their two full-lenghts, yes, but they released one demo and three splits in between that are absolutely devastating as well. But speaking now about the new album “Sparagmos”, from 2024, I must say that it was one of the releases I awaited the most in the recent years. I remember playing some of their gigs and being completely absorbed by a song they played live for years, ‘Be Cadaver’. I was expecting an official recording of such a fascinating song and finally, it happened! The three songs remaining on the album, ‘Red Feasts Condensed Into One’, ‘Sinew Censer’ and ‘Death’s Knell Rings In Eternity’ are complementing, not only the structure of the album, but they reinforce the whole concept of the band, a spectral voice ascending to your psyche and disrupting your inner being.
