Beer, beer, fuck yeah, beer. I was, I am and I always will be an enormous fan of jokes with and about beer. I believe this world has nothing left to offer then low level humor about drinking. Therefore I explicitly support every scene which focuses solely on its own egoistic way of excitement. Especially Metal and its sub-genres is a great place for such. BBQ, beer, tits and polemic are also my pillars for a fulfilled existence. It’s fitting well that while I am writing this review, Hamburg is going to hell and cops and state leaders presenting their very own view of a free world. Means my anger for empty talk and music is pretty high at the moment. Fortunately TASK FORCE BEER are not even half as blunt as I thought they were when I read their name first. I expected another fun fuck band telling me about their excesses with beer, monster dicks, women and how insane the day after always is. But no. Even if the source of inspiration of that project is Bitburger Pils, Haake Beck, Flensburger, Astra, Beckers and Becks, they clearly have something to say. Mostly with a twinkle eye but still a message. There’s not a lot to find out about TASK FORCE BEER besides they are from Trier (Germany). It’s a six piece and they exist since the 9th of November (one of the important historical German dates already) 2015 and with “Meaning Of Life” they released their first LP. I assume since they all look like in their 30s they all played in bands before. Obviously they are able of using their instruments and know how to write a song. These capabilities are well used to create a half an hour Grind fest with a beer breath of death. 15 concise songs. Not too challenging but very entertaining, because of mid-tempo sections, some Death Metal outbreaks, a Punkrock attitude and a Rock’n’Roll flair to it. The sound is well-constructed. It is a very metalish sound but all the instruments are getting just the right space to work perfectly together in that Grind excess. Especially the bass sound I like a lot. The idea seems not to “kill music” but to present skills, technical and musical knowledge and fun. And back to my main concerns, TASK FORCE BEER are not just singing about beer. Instead they have songs about their struggles, anger and points of seeing the world. Something I always respected the Grind scene for. To be, at least a big and important part of it, open minded and political. Unfortunately my favorite song on “Meaning Of Life”, ‘Puutahra’ has nothing to do with anything like that. Its about (if I get it right) something fucked up with a garden and something with Finland? TASK FORCE BEER’s “Meaning Of Life” is a highly entertaining Grind record with a lot of variety and surprises. As much fun it is to listen to I believe this gang is a great life act.
