A bad habit of mine is that I tend to disregard or not pay attention to solo projects, where one person does everything, because something suffers musically at times. Also, I am really not a fan of programmed drums if and when they use them. Yeah, I’m trying to get past this and I’m going to therapy for it, so no hate mail, please. So here we are delving into one-man project TEMPLE OF DECAY, who hails from Poland and what I hear from the onset is plenty of “Legion” era MARDUK, and ANGELCORPSE with maybe a bit of USURPER, but with a more blackened approach. At the onset, I don’t feel the drums are programmed, but they can be a bit simplistic at times. The main driving force here is the guitars and the riffing and also a bit of a dark atmosphere present as well. Speaking of darkness, granted the song titles are in Polish, just take a look at that cover and you can get a good sense of what he is trying to convey. It’s good that it is not quite an EP but the six songs presented are short and to the point and with the production kept to a biting and bleak sound it conveys the overall mood well. The sole member “Mortt” is new to the game and only just started releasing material in 2020, but he puts forth a competent foray into the Black Death genre.
