THE SWILL
Thirst For Misery

THE SWILL are a brand new Michigan based act, featuring guys known from TROUBLE (!), BORROWED TIME, WASTELANDER or HARBINGER. The first two names probably electrified some of you, but hold your horses: it’s a long, long way to go for those guys, as “Thirst For Misery” is a typical release with demo quality. While there are a few good riffs or ideas thrown in here and there, and the guys basically know how to play their instruments, the five tracks from this tape are quite similar to each other, and after listening to all of them nothing really stays in your head. It’s cool they released this demo (or EP, if you prefer) on tape, and the truth is that its front cover artwork is really cool as well. It seems THE SWILL are old school to the bone, but that’s all: with more or less 200 new Metal and Hard Rock albums which are released each month, you need to work harder to survive on the market, or to make sure fans will want to listen to you. In this case, it’s hard to guess for whom they play, as it’s really hard to identify their music. It’s basically something between Stoner Rock and old school / proto Heavy Metal, but more in the “garage band” format. Anyway, let’s keep the fingers crossed, it’s most important to play the music you love, and if it makes them happy, go for it. Who knows, maybe they will find their own identity, and this tape will be worth a fortune in few years?
