Hailing from the diverse Death Metal scene of Chile, TRIMEGISTO has steadily honed their own style over a prolific career and crafted music which is deeply rooted in occultism, mysticism and esoteric subjects. If one looks down at TRIMEGISTO’s discography you can easily observe their growth and bewildering experimentation over the years. These Chileans have consistently pushed the boundaries of their sound and their early releases like “Subterranean Streams” to their 2020 EP “Hanged In Blissful Torture” are bearing this evidence. And they continued their exploration of esoteric premises and atmospheric soundscapes with their EP “The Hanged Man”, released back in 2022. This re-release contains the five tracks of the original cassette edition and four additional tracks from their “Apocalyptic Procreation” split with GODAGAINST, which was released back in 2015. Across these nine tracks, they surely intended to transport listeners to shadowed realms through their meticulously layered compositions and distinct South American tonality by playing a blend of Death Metal, Doom Metal and even hints of Progressive Metal. The opening track ‘Chimerical Conquests’ sets the mood with its murky guitars, ritualistic percussion and visceral vocals invoking arcane imagery. Upcoming numbers ‘Iridescent Vapours’ and the title track unfold intricate movements, swelling with melody yet retaining an ominous air. The other tracks from the split give a rawer essence of their music, which shall give any new listeners a sense of their sound in the earlier records. The solid production work retained their thick, barbaric sound and grants enhanced clarity to appreciate each instrument. Lyrically, these morbid Chileans delves into perennial themes of ancient rituals, spiritual enlightenment and humankind’s dark inner nature. This thematic approach is the foundation of this band and is evident in their previous albums, such as in “Pocilge”, where they delve into the depths of human consciousness and the struggle for enlightenment. With “The Hanged Man”, TRIMEGISTO continues to explore such and delve deeper, creating an atmospheric and introspective journey for the listener. The band’s ability to create a sense of darkness and mystique through their music is commendable and this EP can be a fantastic medium to understand the force they have become over the decades. TRIMEGISTO shall continue playing this Death Metal and deliver a unique sonic experience, not only to keep on captivating their possessed followers, but also to attract new listeners into their mystical world.
