Canada has always had some strong traditions for Thrash Metal. The past and present of the Canadian Thrash Metal scene doesn’t pale in any light in comparison to some other countries’ Speed and Thrash Metal scenes in our tiny world. UNTIMELY DEMISE from Saskatoon, Canada, have unleashed their 2nd studio album this year via Punishment 18 Records; the label that has become a relatively known record company over the past few years by signing a good handful of Thrash bands for their own roster. Having Glen Dover (ex – MEGADETH) to produce the album and Ed Repka’s cover artwork to provide something truly eye-catching for people, this is just a tiny part of the whole concept how much these Canadian Thrashers in UNTIMELY DEMISE want to stick out from the masses. And they do – even by their musical credits on this 8-track effort. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly whether a similar Thrash style to theirs can be heard performing by some other bands around these days. I don’t know any straight comparisons to UNTIMELY DEMISE right off the bat but the guys’ Thrash Metal is definitely on a high technical yet innovative level, in which these four Canadians sort of want to prove to everyone that there’s something special in them, and they are truly worth your attention. Vocalist and guitarist Matt Cuthbertson sounds like he could also sing in a Black Metal band, sounding harsh and malicious with his raspy snarls. There are parts on this record that sound a bit like later era DEATH (listen to a song called ‘Revolutions’ for example), i.e. songs taking a progressive turn every once in a while, bringing in some new welcome spices whenever viciously churned out riffs, intense drumming and stuff, make some space for them in the song structures. For UNTIMELY DEMISE’s advantage it can sincerely be said they have absolutely taken their time when penning down the songs for this follow-up album of theirs. This is so far away from any half-assed shit actually – and quite much on the contrary, these lads do some serious business in terms of keeping their songwriting level high, innovative, tempting and all that. Progressive, slightly blackened Thrash Metal might be the closest musical term that comes to mind when listening to "Systematic Eradication".
