VOMITORY
In Death Throes
(Metal Blade Records)

Tenth full length album for the long running Swedish Death Metal band VOMITORY, that has just released a new piece of brutality, entitled “In Death Throes”, through Metal Blade Records. Ten songs for almost 40 minutes of barbaric to the bone and very well played Death Metal massacre in the purest tradition of this mighty band from Karlstad, that has always been true to their principles. To me VOMITORY is one of the best second wave Swedish Death bands along with DERANGED, because they have been able to take the lessons of seminal bands like UNLEASHED, NIHILIST / ENTOMBED, GRAVE and DISMEMBER and push it to the extreme, focusing the sound on ferocity, instead of being seduced by melody, like the majority of the Swedish names during the mid ‘90s. Here we have a massive dose of savage and boodthirsty Death Metal in its purest form, with tons of grinding blastbeats, growlings, poisonous, harsh and bulldozing riffs, as well as horror oriented and gory lyrics. Here there’s no room for symphonic melody, experimentation and glossy influences, because after thirty years of underground activity the philosophy behind their compositions is still the same as of a sick album like “Raped In Their Own Blood”. Obviously the musicianship and the technical background have grown during three decades, giving us a well-oiled war machine, able to create a form of orthodox Death Metal that, besides paying homage to the cult names of the Swedish scene, mix everything with other unmissable influences like thrasy bridges à la SLAYER from “Reign In Blood” or a british Death Metal touch in the vein of BENEDICTION and especially BOLT THROWER. To be perfectly honest, there’s also a bit of melody in a bunch of guitar riffs, but it’s a choice that does not clash, because is pretty reminiscent of the sinister and dark harmonies of another Swedish monument like NECROPHOBIC or CARCASS from “Heartwork”. In conclusion, “In Death Throes” is a killer album with everything in the right place, even the sick artwork painted by the Greek artist Giannis Nakos. This tenth album proves yet again that VOMITORY are a band who deserves to be placed in the pantheon of European Death Metal, without ifs and buts. www.facebook.com/vomitoryband, www.facebook.com/metalbladerecords
