A look at the cover art and immediately I can sense that this is different. This Polish Black Metal duo formed in 2019 is now releasing their third album and whereas the first two are quite different from a normal Black Metal release, it is this one that truly represents a band that has already reached a very own sound. Although Black Metal is the name, the band is without doubt influenced by traditional Heavy Metal in the early BLACK SABBATH vein, but also specially that which was created in their country in the early ’80s. As for the Black Metal part, it recalls a lot early EMPEROR and bits of early SATYRICON, with a very heavy, almost jazzy bass presence and eerie melody crafted with a variety of tempos, where the band feels comfortable playing very fast or on a decadent mid-tempo. There is some bits of progressive Black Metal not far away from the later DEATHSPELL OMEGA sound, and some parts are similar to country mates BEHEMOTH. The vocals are also quite variated, at times using a very eerie static effect on them, others just come as agonizing laments. The production and execution is definitely some of the best in the genre, and to mention the way the band creates atmospheres is something to be noticed. Song titles and vocalizations are done in their native language, which to me always give a very distinctive touch. This is the kind of release that every time you listen to it again something new seems to appear. A fantastic release that even at this time we can call somewhat original in its own. I am sure time will bring even better things ahead. www.facebook.com/wilczyca.kult, www.facebook.com/godzovwar
