Worshippers Of A Dying Star

I think HELIOLATRY is a name already full of science and gravity. I like physics and cosmology and stuff. So, taking a look at the sun for more than 34 minutes sounds very interesting to me. Formed in 2023 between Sweden and Australia, this international duo falls into the world of Black Metal with an approach that feels both cosmic and introspective, which is kind of a characteristic I’m always chasing on a Black Metal release. Their debut full-length “Worshippers Of A Dying Star”, released by Caverna Abismal Records, presents 34 minutes of music that reaches the confines of the galaxy. Listening to HELIOLATRY is like gravitating around an ancient constellation, guided by forces that are unseen but present behind the eras. The music moves with a strange elegance, alternating between moments of violent intensity and vast, open passages that seem to dissolve into the stars. The atmosphere they create is huge. It feels like standing at the edge of the universe and hearing the echoes of creation, collapsing before the end. The guitars move on spirals into darkness, while the vocals rise like a distant passenger from a dying world. The drums pulse at the rhythm of the void while the bass resonates inside like a black hole. Every element here on this album feels deliberately placed to surround a vision of cosmic decay and transcendence. Or at least, it’s what I believe they wanted to do. HELIOLATRY is able to connect the traditional Black Metal with the beauty of the infinite. Like poetry. That’s why they feel cosmic. Their sound feels like it belongs to the stars, but carries a human melancholy that makes it translate to our feelings. You can almost feel the tension between devotion and destruction, between creation and extinction. “Worshippers Of A Dying Star” is the kind of album that invites you to close your eyes and disappear for a while. HELIOLATRY have managed to capture the mystery that lies at the heart of Black Metal and give it a cosmic form. I liked where they began.
