OZ is a traditional Metal band from Finland. “Fire In The Brain” is their second album, which originally was released in 1983 on Tyfon Grammofon (and Combat Records in the US). OZ plays traditional Heavy Metal and their music is pretty straight forward. ‘Fortune’ has a cool passage around the guitar solo which makes it very catchy. ‘Megalomaniac’ gives you the impression that it will be an instrumental track, but the vocal parts are actually commercial. The songs are pretty short, so you can listen to the whole album without really thinking that you did. ‘Black Candles’ is a slower track with very crunchy rhythms. It is a stand out cut in the album and one of my favorites here. Then it turns into a speedy barn burner before ending kind of abruptly, which is a little upsetting. If they had played for about two more minutes the song would had been memorable. If you listen to this album now you would probably think that it’s not that much special, but if you heard this when it originally came out, this album is heavy and aggressive as hell. It has that kind of NWOBHM sound to it. If you haven’t listen to this band before and you enjoy that British Metal sound I recommend you to check them out. Specially the ‘Stop Believin’ song which reminds me of a mixture of a MAIDENesque version of METALLICA’s ‘No Remorse’.
