Kentucky is not only a place where they make great and famous whisky, but also a place where people know how to create brutal and classic sounding Death Metal. At least the guys from ABOMINANT know how to do it, and they are no beginners: "Onward To Annihilation" is their 10th studio album, so if they are still here, they surely know what they do. Yes, the word "classic" wasn’t used by accident: ABOMINANT managed to return to the great good old days of early / middle DEICIDE or MALEVOLENT CREATION, and took it all even further. Thankfully the album doesn’t sound too modern: it’s all massive and thick (but also very clean and precise, to be exact), but without too many digital toys and tricks which ruin so many great new Death Metal albums being heard. It’s definitelly a piece of strong and precise US Death Metal, but located far away from what we know from current productions of so called major acts of the genre, like let’s say SUFFOCATION. It may sound stupid, but their Death Metal really lives, and we can clearly hear these guys love what they do. It’s all a passion and brutality that only human beings – and dedicated Death Metal maniacs – can generate. Their Metal dedication can be also heard in the terrific ‘Hold Your Ground’ where they sound like EXODUS or even EXCITER (that’s right, a Death Metal band playing classic Speed Metal, how cool is that?!), or in a really cool version of HYPOCRISY’s ‘Left To Rot’, which sounds here like their own composition.
