APOSTLE OF SOLITUDE from Indianapolis, USA play traditional Doom Metal with all the right ingredients thrown in. The vocals are perfect, the rhythm is slow and steady, the band is taking monstrous steps together, one at a time. Is Doom supposed to flow like the river smoothening rocks along the way whilst consuming lives that don’t respect it? Perhaps! APOSTLE OF SOLITUDE employs a simple approach just like the endless river. Although ‘When The Darkness Comes’ is a strong track, nothing much is going on in there. However, track # 2, ‘The Union’ onwards, things take a better turn. The band stretches their sound employing good guitar pieces, vocal harmonies and a strong spine! The rhythm section is the real treat here, the drummer is precise, not a moment too soon, nor a second too late. The band successfully manages to evoke the sense of loss and vastness from time to time, these are the places where the vocals shine! Delivered with such meticulousness, APOSTLE OF SOLITUDE seems like they’ve funneled down into a very strong unit over the course of the past 17 years. “Until The Darkness Goes” is quite an enjoyable album, in fact it is an extremely well mixed album! However, the sound is pretty much restricted to the pre-defined boundaries by the band, not that it’s a bad thing or I need to key in some sort of a limitation as part of the review but you feel it throughout the album. The band doesn’t build up on the brilliant camaraderie they clearly share and it surely seems like a missed opportunity. A little less hesitation and a little more exploration would’ve definitely pushed this album onto the next level. Fans of Doom and particularly traditional Doom Metal should not miss this album out, it’s a well put together slab of music and quite enjoyable. I’ll definitely go see them live!
