ARROGANZ

Slinky labeled as being a Black / Death hybrid, ARROGANZ doesn’t really play by the rules. The suffocating and oppressive atmospherics found both in the sound of obscure Black Metal and the stifling chaos of Death Metal are an ever-present force here. This mixture is a deluding beast, possessed of a tangential tendency to wriggle in directions that range from total darkness to the absolute brawl. It may seem that a genre that equally relies on and relishes a simplistic approach to structure has little opportunity for growth, that doesn’t mean it isn’t still impressive when played with self-confidence. ARROGANZ bursts of self-confidence. As far as individual songs go, ‘Strait Paths & Grave Walls’ and ‘Oblivate’ are the winners. Catchy, hooky, well produced, riff-driven songs firmly planted in the old Black Metal world, but with a chunk of occult contents thrown in. I simply love this album.
