CORAXO
Starlit Flame
(self-financed)
28:39min

During the first listening session there was only one song that aroused my attention and sadly this was the cover version of ‘Refuse / Resist’ by SEPULTURA. Not really a good sign if the best song on a release is written by another band. But do not mistake me, this first output by CORAXO from Finland is not a complete fail. Mostly mid-paced Death Metal with dominant keyboards, the band marks the music with the brand Industrial Electro Death Metal. The Death Metal elements on "Starlit Flame" are quite enjoyable, but the Industrial Electro noises are sometimes very improper and in some places they are just annoying. Songs like ‘The Big Fight Scene’ or ‘Transformed’ are ruined by this keyboard / computer sounds. CORAXO are definitely able to write good songs, but sometimes I think they add industrial elements just on principle. The song ‘Signal Detected’ instead shows how to use keyboards – to create atmosphere, to underline the pulsating rhythm… strongly reminds me of ‘End Of Discloser’ by HYPOCRISY. As well the alien / UFO / science fiction lyrics are a common ground between CORAXO and HYPOCRISY. "Starlit Flame" is considered as debut EP (price: 7€), not a demo release, but in my eyes the band is just not mature enough for releasing an EP. Hopefully CORAXO will continue where they stopped with a song like ‘Signal Detected’ or partly ‘The Xenotaph’. www.coraxo-official.com, www.facebook.com/coraxoband
