Italian Death Metallers CRAWLING CHAOS have been around for about 10 years, and during this period they have recorded one 6-song EP titled "Goatsuckers" in 2008 – and 2013 also sees the release of their debut album, "Repellent Gastronomy". Limb-heavy heavy, modern, groovy, weird, mean, partly grind-ish, and technical Death Metal were some of the first adjectives that flashed in my mind when listening to this disc. It’s cool to hear that CRAWLING CHAOS have a somewhat serious drive to make something a bit different on the wide field of Death Metal – and not only throwing the safest bets in for perhaps gaining a wider audience for them in terms of some extra success. In fact, quite on the contrary by not counting on some of the most safest and most comfortable zones of extreme music, CRAWLING CHAOS have put a decent amount of effort into creating something a bit more unorthodox and unique by trying to be a bit more open-minded as far as their song structures are concerned. CRAWLING CHAOS do offer a pretty challenging album for the listeners by letting their songs breathe freely, without restricting themselves too much by trying out a number of different things within their brutally moving and technically advanced Death Metal onslaught – and without forcing them to stick to some certain, strict musical formula either that would only direct the songs toward one straight road, without that crossroad effect allowed, full of different possibilities to do things this or that way, you know. Because of these Italians’ broad-minded way to maintain some sort of multi-layered, positive vibe through the whole album, this record invites you to visit it on a regular basis. Manuel on guitar and vocals reminds me of Dave Rotten of AVULSED and even Ross Dolan of IMMOLATION every once in a while, which is nice because his deep bellowing has this cool effect to keep things on a bit darker side of Death Metal while a song like ‘Closing The Gates’ tries to prove something else (start listening from the 2:38min mark). Anyways, I warmly recommend you to keep your eyes out for this band. There truly is a strong enough amount of some kick-ass value in CRAWLING CHAOS, that’s for sure. Want to know more?
