For the past decade, Copenhagen, Denmark’s DEUS OTIOSUS have provided us with Metal that’s part Death, part Thrash and even slightly blackened. Four albums in, "Opposer" continues the onslaught. Anders Bo Rasmussen (vocals), Henrik and Peter Engkjaer (guitars), Jesper Holst (bass) and Jesper Olsen (drums) have steadily paved a path of dependable music that thunders through our veins like a creeping, crawling parasite. ‘Kneel’ blasts forward immediately without warning with pummeling drumming, chugging guitars and throaty vocals. ‘Disturbing The Dead’ brings a horror element into the mix which is what we expect from this group of hooligans. The third track ‘Stand Your Ground’, walks tall with heavy footsteps. Rasmussen’s vocal style is a morphing behemoth of doom and destruction. The thrashy ‘Haunter’ will have the audience spinning and kicking. ‘Towering Flames’ swaggers with a cocky attitude that maintains its rhythm throughout without losing its power. The drums and guitars of ‘The Opposer’ crash through the wall of sound with a fist-pounding anthem to make any listener happy. The chanting of ‘To The Graves’ leads this track into a running start before levelling off in a fast-paced juggernaut of Metal madness. ‘Return To Slavery’, with its classic death sound… ‘Great Horror’, with its blinding speed… and ‘March Of The Unworthy’, with its mid-paced majesty end this album nicely. There’s not necessarily anything new offered on "Opposer", but instead it’s a solid work the band should be content with. At around 42 minutes, there’s just enough music to break a few necks and leave without overstaying its welcome.
