This Northern California-based trio having Tyler on guitar and vocals, Pat on bass and Derek on drums, abandoned their original band name DEVASTATOR, and changed their name to BLESSED CURSE in 2010. The band’s 3rd 5-track "Burn The Beast" EP, was recorded and released under the old band moniker in 2008 though, which I am now having on my table. Thrash Metal is the name of the game here – and this is also the kind of game I could play for the rest of my life, if just bands like these Cali-Thrashers could keep me company ’til I totally get bored by them. Well, maybe that day will never even come simply because I love Thrash – and I mean real Thrash Metal that oozes sheer relentless energy, and is packed with the kind of ear candy ingredients that overall we all crave for a well made Thrash Metal. DEVASTATOR (in this case) have pretty much got ’em all; there’s enough speed, enough neck snapping – sharp and punishing riffs, the usual Thrash barks, nice bass lines, intelligent drum parts and shit. It’s all here on the band’s "Burn The Beast" EP, which also remains in their own history books as the guys’ best recording by the DEVASTATOR name. DEVASTATOR thrash hard throughout the "Burn The Beast" EP – and I think I would drop them into the same violent pit with bands like BLOOD FEAST, MORBID SAINT, early KREATOR and the ones that have this a bit heavier hand to dig up a more brutal and sinister sound for their Thrash performance. DEVASTATOR are masters at that – and I have already lost my count how many replays I have given to this stellar release. The production is even top-notch but it’s no wonder as it’s been recorded, mixed and mastered by this dude known as Juan Urteaga (TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD, SADUS) at Trident Studios – and just in a week. Up next I really need to check out BLESSED CURSE, as I firmly believe that they perhaps might even continue kicking our asses under their new band name too.
