Ususally I’m not a friend of using too many superlatives, but the second full-length recording of this one-man project from Germany is an absolutely great piece of blackened Heavy Metal! Not more but not less either! It picks up the raw power and anger-energy of very early Thrash and Speed Metal when this style still was based very much on single riffs and songs like ‘The Sacred Scriptures’, ‘Pandemonium’ or ‘Vicious Assault’ are able to create an really evil aura by using moments and especially riffings known from the very early days of Scandinavian Black Metal. In the end, the slightly hollow and scratchy sound, the barked vocals of singer Heavy Steeler and the characteristic Ruhr-area drum sound of his dear friend Christhunter is what brings all nostalgic comparisons to old SODOM with Witchhunter on the drumkit, AVENGER (early RAGE) and in some moments old KREATOR and DESTRUCTION into your heads, as well as sometimes the young MAYHEM or DARKTHRONE. This mixture alone makes this record already become a must-have for fans of blackened old school Thrash and Speed Metal. But there is still much more to find. There are these songs called ‘Starlit Skies’ and ‘Voyage To Fortune’ which are offering lead guitars sounding like remains from the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and featuring an epic side in the music which plays with melodies one can feel embraced by. Besides from his very fine sense for what he can make possible in the songs and what simply would overload them, Heavy Steeler also sat down and wrote a complete coherent story for the lyrics on the album which should take the listener in a fictional world and tie him there until the music’s over. Successful I would say. What a great album! People who like two or more of the bands mentioned above, should go and get a copy! www.facebook.com/diabolicnight, www.facebook.com/hrrecords
