Austria’s DISASTROUS MURMUR have quite a name in the scene – not surprinsingly, for this band has been around since 1988! Nonetheless I have to admit that their newest release is my first encounter with their music – somehow they permanently kept on slipping pass my attention for the last 14 years when their debut "Rhapsodies In Red" was released. PUNGENT STENCH, DISHARMONIC ORCHESTRA and MIASMA demanded all my money I was able to invest in my neighbour country back then… sorry DISASTROUS! Well this means no comparisons to their prior releases from me here. Yet, listening to the nine tracks on "Marinate Your Meat" I cannot imagine that much of their style has changed in the last years. DISASTROUS MURMUR are very much based on 90s Thrash Metal dressed in an old school Death Metal sound. You get lots of typical KREATOR / EXODUS styled riffs with different Death and Grind influences, a varied songwriting, different speeds and thrashy vocals sung in a deathy way. The whole music has a strong Austrian touch and quite often you get reminded of good old PUNGENT STENCH – especially when it comes to the vocals. The production is good – transparent with a good powerful natural note. And speaking of PUNGENT STENCH, it did not surprise me to see that Martin Schirenc himself produced this longplayer. Must be one big family down there! Another thing they share with the STENCH guys is the taste for vile songtitles and coverartworks. ‘Bondage Balls And Cock Dissection’, ‘Daily Toilet Torturing’ and ‘Fecal Overdose’ speak a clear language. The dis-tasteful cover motive (a photography of a Hellraiser-like pierced and impaled heart or a skinned schlong with balls or something completly different – I am not sure) does the rest. Fortunately DISASTROUS MURMUR take it from the humorous side so chances are small that your copy of the album will get ruined by your own puke… There are also two live videoclips on the CD from the tracks ‘Bondage…’ and ‘The Call’. Nothing special here but with a good sound – a nice idea anyway! Two tracks can be found on the bands website www.disastrousmurmur.at.
